I have seen this work with cereal rye in southern Illinois. A word of caution would be to know exactly the value of the biomass you are removing. The neighbor I have that is having success with this has a significant amount of beef cattle as well as a turkey facility, giving him ample access to manure, cheaply replacing the lost nutrients.
