Balancing your Soil’s Mineral and Nutrient Levels: A Closer Look at Low Sulfur and High Organic Matter
Cobden, IL|Apr 17, 2024
Why do I have low sulfur but high organic matter?
Answers (4):
When did you test? Sulfur soil test is the worst and typically takes warmer soils to become available
Can you tell us a bit more? What sort of soil do you have? What method was used to determine your level of P? Roughly how much OM and P are being reported?
Thank you kindly.
We should start by defining what high organic matter really means.
But, here are some of the numbers. For one percent of organic matter there is about 1000 pounds of nitrogen, trapped as well as 100 pounds of sulfur, trapped per acre.
The degree of release depends on mineralization. And there are many factors that affect this process.
